My work is not bound to any specific medium but instead responds to the ideas I wish to explore. I do not identify as strictly a “Conceptual” or “Multimedia” artist. Rather, I am an artist who operates in the spaces between established categories. Much of my work is interactive, meaning it only fully comes to life when engaged by the viewer.
My creative process is driven by inquiry. While many of the questions I explore are personal in origin, I hope the insights they yield resonate on a universal level. Different viewers may experience contrasting reactions to the same installation, and I welcome this diversity of interpretation. Though I often have my own ideas in mind when creating a piece, my goal is for the work to be accessible, with the most important aspect being what each viewer takes away from the interaction.
I am also fascinated by machines and the concept of functionality, which feature prominently in my work. Spectacle plays a central role as well, as I aim to address both the mechanics of objects and the ways they function, hoping to make these ideas accessible to a broad audience. Though my work could be categorized as installation, I am equally concerned with the environments I create and the individual objects that compose them.
After more than 35 years in teaching and over 17 years in administration, I am now focusing on producing new work centered on photography and sculpture. I am particularly interested in exploring multimedia photo projects that are process-oriented. Some of these projects will be subtle, while others will incorporate a wide array of techniques and processes.
